Distributed Leadership , a short video

My reflections from Week 7...not 'original' or 'created by me'. But, I can relate to this in relation to the discussions we had today!

Measuring and quantifying Intelligence...a task little understood!

Resonating from last week's session at the Mindlab was the discussion about Intelligence and IQ

tests. a subject dear to my heart as I have always valued 'emotional intelligence' above any other in a

human being. Here's a link to a recent study that discusses the issue further

How do we measure Imaginative Intelligence?

Gaming to Reflect

Flanders Field

HMV Prize

When 7 and 8 year olds use Mine Craft to create

Flanders Field strewn with poppies

and

HMV Prize with William Sanders on board, waiting for

German subs in still waters on a

moonlit night..

in their own time, at home , with no project or home learning

demands from the teacher, celebrations are called for

because...

1. The Inquiry into Anzac Day has been owned and led by

these learners to have made this kind of an impact.

2. Anzac Day and its message has hit home and inspired a

respectful response in kids so young.

3. Gaming is a very valid tool for learning when children are

left to 'their own devices' in the right context with the

background work done by the coach/teacher/facilitator.

Hynessight: Learning and Teaching in the 21st Century

Learning and Teaching in the 21st century, another blogger's perspective.

Reflections Week 4 at the #Mindlab

We were looking at Learning Theories this week for the first part of the session. the second part was all about stop motion animation.

Even though I know this, it still struck a chord with me as to how much more I enjoyed the latter part of the session.

Yet, I am quite bookish and love reading up about things. Nevertheless, DOING or CREATING the stop motion animation was more fun , more engaging.
It was more risky, we faltered, made mistakes. The safety net of 'tried and tested learning theories' was not there. But, it was more satisfying.

What do I take away from this? Make the learning in my class even more aligned with 'doing' to learn.
Resonates with the name of my Blog 'Create to Learn'.

Fun with Aurasma!

Session 3 Reflections..what do today's learners need?

Really enjoyed my first REAL time session today. Feeling s little less anxious about "What have I missed?"..

Disruption..Hmm...was a very interesting discussion that one. It is slightly ironical that companies like Apple who are major 'disruptors' can themselves be 'disrupted' unless they continue to
INNOVATE.

But , that innovation has to be meaningful and relevant as well Innovation for the sake of it meets with a lukewarm response..Apple watch comes to mind

Is the Apple Watch really useful?

Main points I took away from today:

  • Creativity and Critical Thinking are key competencies for our learners.
  • Computational Thinking is more important than learning to code.
  • Primary teaching is one of those professions under very little threat of being disrupted as computers cannot teach a child to think emotionally or critically.
  • A good understanding( basic maybe but solid) of the 2 models of teaching and learning SAMR and TPACK
  • A much better understanding of how to approach the first assignment.
